ForestKind

Leave the hustle and conditioning behind to thrive in a simple and rustic intentional community

About

ForestKind is a new intentional community in the ozarks of Missouri that started in mid 2025. An intentional community that’s different in that we all have a private home/space and also a lot of shared community buildings and resources. We are off-grid, rustic, and centered around living life more aligned with nature and simplicity. We welcome artists here, women, families, single parents… all who are herbalists, healers, people into natural medicine, foraging, hippies, and others who wish to leave the matrix and get back to our roots. We are sharing land, growing food together, living in simple and natural homes, creating together, music… art… dancing! We have 13 acres of land and we also have the Mark Twain National Forest boundary nearby, so the land is plenty.

MORE DETAILS

This community is set up to be rustic and primitive, so there are no options for utilities or RV hookups. We get our water from the nearby spring or rainwater collection, and our power is minimal and utilizes solar. Even if you purchase a neighboring plot, there are no utilities available because of the remoteness of this area. It is possible to set yourself up with enough solar to run AC or other luxuries, but really the goal of this place is to get back to our roots, living without all those luxuries and therefore being less sick, less lazy, and feeling more in tune with our bodies and the world around us.

WE ARE RUSTIC. I can’t say this enough, so I’ll say it again… WE ARE RUSTIC!!! The land is all very steep and sloped with small pockets of flat areas. We are located on top of a mountain ridge, and the roads to reach us are dirt mountain roads which are steep. A 4x4 or SUV is recommended, although plenty of people have accessed it with regular cars too. This is like wilderness camping, so besides the shared structures we have already built (kitchen, office, toilets, rainwater collection, some paths), there are no ready-built houses to rent or RV hookups. If you wish to join us, the best bet for housing is all-season tents, campers, yurts, RVs, skoolies, prefab houses (you can buy one outright or on a monthly payment plan from Farmington), which they can deliver to the area.

Leave your world of stress, sickness, day jobs that barely cover your costs, and school systems that don’t serve to join ForestKind where neighbors support one another, where kids are homeschooled and run wild and barefoot and free, where costs are very low, life is simple and stress free, where we gather for women groups, share food over potlucks, dance around the bonfire listening to live music that feeds the soul and eat organic home grown food from our shared garden.

THE FOCUS AND SHARED VALUES

* SHARED community spaces are DEVICE FREE zones (with exception of the office). You can use your phones, iPads, and computers in your private tent or residence, but community spaces are off limits for that.
* NO VIOLENCE. Violence of any kind will not be tolerated. This is a safe zone for kids and women.
* Community kitchen is a no-junk food zone. Keep your chemical-laden foods in your private spaces.
* NO CHEMICALS on the land. No pesticide sprays, no poisons of any kind, and using only biodegradable products at all times is a must.

ForestKind is set up in a way that you have many options to come and join us. You can come and volunteer (either building or gardening or sharing other wonderful skills!) or you can come to a visitor weekend and there is an option to come and stay for an extended time at the cost of $50 a month per adult (less for kiddos) which gives you access to our shared outdoor kitchen, compost toilets, spring water & rain collected water and an office with WIFI & charging ports. You also have the option to purchase land if you wish (There is a mandatory 6 month stay if you wish to purchase one of the small parcels within ForestKind property) or you can purchase one of the two parcels adjoining ForestKind (we are not the ones selling it but we will show it to interested parties! the one across the road from us is 5 acres for 19K).
